What is a push email notification?

Within seconds of receiving an email message, your iPhone will beep or buzz, and the notification badge on your iPhone home screen will update.

Doesn't iPhone support push email already? Currently the iPhone only provides push email if your account is on a Microsoft Exchange server or on Apple's MobileMe service. It was not possible to be notified immediately when new mail arrived into regular IMAP email accounts... until now.	How do I know if my email account will work?
